Fate brings Eva and Felipe together in very unusual circumstances: as contestants on a TV game show. Both find themselves there for similar reasons.

Eva, a kind and responsible young woman who runs a modest family catering company, is heartbroken when she discovers that her fiance, Eduardo, is not what she thought, but a lying, cheating gambler who has stolen from her family's business and brought it to ruin. And Felipe, a dashingly handsome playboy born into a millionaire family, has made bad financial decisions and squandered his inherited fortune, incurring tremendous debts.

The launching of a program titled Cazando un millonario (Catching a Millionaire) offers both of them the possibility of solving their money problems. The show features a millionaire bachelor who must choose one of five contestants to make her his wife. The best part is that once married, the bride receives a grand prize of one hundred thousand dollars.

With the premiere just a few days away, the show's producers are desperate because they can't find a rich candidate willing to get married this way. That's when Gustavo, Felipe's best friend and business partner, convinces him to come on the show concealing the real state of his finances. Since Felipe has such a prominent last name, no one will suspect he is no longer wealthy. Gustavo insists that, with the grand prize money in hand, Felipe will be able to invest it wisely and quickly get back on his feet. He also advises Felipe to choose the contestant who seems the most simple-minded and docile, so that it will be easier to convince her to put the money in his hands.

Meanwhile, Eva is reluctant to place herself in such a humiliating situation, but her family's bankruptcy pushes her to do it against her better judgement. Following the advice of her best friend, Eva decides to appear humble, sweet and submissive. She even changes her style of clothing and make-up, to contrast with the other contestants who seem to be aggressive fortune hunters.

And so begins a compelling story of love and conflict. Felipe chooses Eva, and the marriage takes place before the eyes of the whole country. But what the new couple doesn't know is that the game show's rules require that they live together for at least one year before receiving the prize money. During that crucial year, profound feelings start to grow between them, in spite of the many obstacles placed by Valentina, Felipe's spoiled and greedy fiancee, who forms an alliance with the scoundrel Eduardo to destroy the happiness that Eva and Felipe find by chance. But nothing can come between them, and Eva and Felipe discover that while fortune brought them together, true love will keep them united forever...
