Twenty years ago, a circus arrives in a town on the outskirts of Caracas and shortly thereafter, Andreina Arocha, daughter of a wealthy landowner, dies of an incurable disease, first having given birth to a little girl. Her stepmother, Herminia, an ambitious and unscrupulous woman, discovers that in the gypsy camp, a woman had died in labor and that her child was also born dead. Herminia, who has twins of her own from a previous marriage and wants them to inherit everything, hatches a diabolical plan. In the dark of night, with the help of a faithful servant, the babies are switch. The gypsy baby's body is placed in the crib of the Arocha and the Arocha baby leaves town the next day with the circus. Time passes and the circus returns; Kassandra is now a lovely young woman who has been promised in marriage by her gypsy grandmother to the handsome Randu, a knife-thrower and leader of the tribe.
