Twenty years ago, a circus arrives in a town on the outskirts of Caracas and shortly thereafter, Andreina Arocha, daughter of a wealthy landowner, dies of an incurable disease, first having given birth to a little girl. Her stepmother, Herminia, an ambitious and unscrupulous woman, discovers that in the gypsy camp, a woman had died in labor and that her child was also born dead. Herminia, who has twins of her own from a previous marriage and wants them to inherit everything, hatches a diabolical plan. In the dark of night, with the help of a faithful servant, the babies are switch.
